There is some talk that now that Mads as Hannibal has been confirmed, that he may no longer be available to do Thor II......

Also "If all goes according to Bryan Fuller’s plan, then Mikkelsen will be playing Dr. Lecter on the small screen for the next seven years.."

Mads says he does not have time for Thor II, everything came at once, and he has chosen to do Hannibal instead.

First claiming David Slade from his directing duties on "Daredevil," it looks like NBC's "Hannibal" has forced another big talent out of a high profile superhero movie.

First reported at the end of May as being talks for the villain role in "Thor 2," it looks like things haven't worked out for Mads Mikkelsen to appear Marvel's sequel. "Yeah, that's not happening unfortunately. I had a meeting with them, but they were a little too late. And then 'Hannibal' came in, and everything just came in the same period, so now it's not happening," the actor recently told Zoomin Movies.

As you might recall, the actor is slated to play Hannibal Lecter in the upcoming series, with news of his casting comes just days after the "Thor 2" story broke. Currently shooting the road movie "Move On" for director Asger Leth ("Man On A Ledge," the actor will move onto the television series after that has wrapped, with the network ordering 13 episodes of the show, that will follow Hannibal Lecter – prior to his incarceration and working as a practicing psychiatrist – solving crimes alongside Will Graham (played by Hugh Dancy), Lecter’s FBI partner. We suppose Slade and Mikkelsen can swap stories on the set about comic book movies that never were.

As for who will replace Mikkelsen, no word yet. It wasn't even clear what role he would've been playing, so plenty of time to figure that out. The Alan Taylor directed "Thor 2" will hit theaters on Novemer 8, 2013.

It's more sad, that he will play Hannibal. A TV series! What a crazy idea. I'm sure, he would play it very well, but I'd like to see more great dramas. The Hollywood/Mainstream movies with Mads in it (Clash of the titans, The three musketeers, Casino royale and even King Arthur) were all bad/boring.

What stupid news. That's not a good ending of my birthday.

From what he said, it's seems more to me that he didn't actually choose 'Hannibal' over 'Thor 2', more that he had already signed up for 'Hannibal' and therefore had no choice but to turn T2 down - which is even sadder. Maybe they were trying to come to some scheduling agreement in order for him to be able to do both - but couldn't, perhaps? I don't know, just surmising as they obviously entered into talks to some degree.

Am I the only one who's pleased about this news...?

The thing is I always prefer movies to TV. Period. Silver screen is unbeatable. I have always questioned Mads' Hollywood decisions. All his movies seem to be very mediocre - not bad in precise but not huge, successful blockbusters either. To be quite honest, all of Hollywood movies aren't really impressive comparing to independent movie industry (indie movies fanatic here!) or film industries in other countries or parts of the world.

So if most Hollywood movies are pop corn and have no deep substance, wouldn't be better if he chose successful blockbusters instead of regular, mediocre projects? 'Thor 2' being part of Marvel is predicted to be a huge success, relying on 'Thor' and 'The Avengers' massive box office gorossing. He really had a chance here.

What is even far more worst is that everyone predicts the show will be canceled after two episodes or so. I don't know if that a regular NBC thing to do so, but yes, there are so many shows that get canceled after a few episodes. That would be dreadful if it happens I'm not ok with him favoring 'Hannibal' over 'Thor 2' but I'd be pretty upset if the show gets canceled.

And we haven't seen pics of your birthday cake or wild party pics on FB! I demand ones

*he he* same feelings here I wouldn't have minded seeing Mads in both roles but I am happy that Hannibal made the race...the story is far more interesting and Mads plays the lead whereas in Thor2 he would have been damned to mediocrity ( if I may quote Lisbeth here) he wouldn't have been the hero nor the main villain... I'm afarid his role would not have been bigger than Draco in Clash... so yay for Hannibal!! I hope this is the case here, not him choosing 'Hannibal' over 'Thor 2' because like I said, I don't trust his Hollywood decisions.
Though he should have predicted he'll be bombarded with offers right after his Cannes win, maybe he was ought to slow down his approval over the projects he received.
'Thor 2' would have brought more villain roles but what type of offers will 'Hannibal' bring? More TV roles ..? Is he even interested in that? He himself said he preferred films. Maybe he wanted to try how TV shows are being produced in north America.

On a side note, my biggest fear is Mads starring in a Hollywood rom-com With Katherine Heigl

I hate to say this and risk the wrath of Scottie and Lisbeth but I fear that a roll in Thor II might type cast him as a Villain in popcorn films ...
I may have been one of the handful of Pro T3M fans but I would really love some great - Open Hearts/Prag style - films rather than too many fluffs ...

My brother tells me that the scripts for 'Hannibal' are really supposed to be brilliantly written and very exciting...

I actually agree with you on the role. I think Hannibal IS the better choice for him. I would have liked to see him as another God like Heimdall or something. Or even better a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent. I´m not a big fan of those Hollywood villain roles. But it´s MARVEL! For me that´s like being knighted (even if he is a real knight already)

I'm not against Hannibal but I'd preferred if he had a role in 'Thor 2'. Yes I know Hollywood movies stink, I've made that clear. The movies he choose to be part of before stink even more; 'King Arthur' was only popular in North America, 'Clash of the Titans' was a huge flop and 'The Three Musketeers' was nothing but a joke (& unlike Tristan and Draco, Rochefort was a very meh character). Point is, if he is going to be in a movie, let that movie be a successful, popular one.

It's like 'Casino Royale'. He didn't have that huge role portion but the movie was and still a massive success and everyone knows 'Le Chiffre' This could have been repeated with 'Thor 2'. 'Marvel' has an overwhelming fan base, I dare to say bigger than Bond fans.

I hate his regression from the silver screen to the small screen, yet again it is a very brave move and a refreshing change for him. Mads is very innovative, sometimes in a naive, unintended way - but I admire the unique choices he makes like the role of the silent One-Eye, 'Move On' which has a new concept by using social media and involving people in it and now this; returning to tv after years of a successful film career. Who knows, maybe later he'll decide to do theatre!
